Holiday Eating
The holidays are just around the corner. And with the holidays that usually means lots and lots of food. A lot of people tend to gain the most weight during this season. Today, I thought I would share some tips on how to prevent that and make better choices during this holiday season.
This time of the year is my favorite. The feeling of being with family, enjoying each others company, and truly celebrating what it means to be family is great. But a lot comes with it. Food brings people together. As far back as I am concerned food has been the centerpiece to most and every type of gathering. The kitchen is truly the center of the home. This day and age however, we as Americans tend to over eat, especially during this time. I am all about enjoying yourself, as everyone should! But one thing you don't need to do is binge eat Turkey Day all the way through New Years. Here are some helpful tips to not go overboard with food this holiday season.
Water Intake
Drink lots and lots of water. All those foods are filled with salt crazy seasonings and sodium. Make sure to drink at least a gallon of water a day to help flush all those toxins out of your body.
White meat all the way
I preferably do not care for roasted turkeey. Quite boring if you ask me! But if turkey is being served at your Thanksgiving or Christmas try and go for mostly white meat. White meat is leaner and has less fat than the dark meat.
Eat before
If you're headed to your holiday celebration try and eat something healthy and small before. That way you aren't too hungry come meal time. This will help you from overeating in all the wrong places.
Sweets
I for one have a huge sweet tooth. I have always had a hard time resisting sweets! Try and limit to one piece of pie, or one cookie so you don't go overboard. Even better yet, bring a healthy dessert option for everyone and that way you have a go to decision to make!
Easy on the Pepsi Fuller
Drinking... My family has always liked to party. Haha. But drinking has a lot of calories, especially egg nog if that is your holiday drink of choice. Try and stick to just a glass of red wine. Or if you prefer a cocktail stick to clear liquor and go for soda water instead.
Getting friends and family to understand
Not everyone has the same goal as you. And not everyone will understand your goals and ambitions. I am all for the motto "everything in moderation." But during these times some people have 3, 4, or 5 holiday meals to go to. And that is alot in excess. Explain to your family why you are making the choices you are, and they should understand! And if they don't that is okay, just don't let that hinder your success!
Hope these tips are helpful! And do not deprive yourself! That right there will cause you to slip up completely. It is okay to enjoy yourself, in moderation. Just let those choices be 90% good ones, and the other 10% enjoy!
Happy holidays!
Marisha
